Scarlet Speedster are a three piece from Jackson, Mississippi with Dusty on guitar/vox, Jeremiah on bass/vox, Bobby behind the kit/vox. This is when the term New Wave makes sense again! Bobby, did an email interview with me in June/06.
What do you think it is about this line up that makes it work?
Dusty: All three of us have our own styles of playing. Each of us like different styles of music and when we bring all of those influences to the band, it creates a sound known as Scarlet Speedster. Hopefully a sound that people will enjoy - sounds of new wave, rock, and punk.
Bobby: I think also that our friendship is important Dusty and I have known each other and played in various bands together for about 13 years and Jeremiah has been a friend of ours for years also. When we are not playing we are getting to know one another a little more each time we see each other, I think that that eliminates any tension that might have been there if we were not friends, does that make sense?

Tell me about the new EP. Where was it recorded?
Bobby: The new EP was recorded at Popaholic Records with Chris Nicholas running the board. We had a very good time recording the EP. It was oddly enough smooth going all the way and chris was able to capture the sound that we wanted, and he did it with ease it seemed like.
Dusty: This is an EP that we are proud of and so far have gotten a good response from as well, we were able reach and accomplish our creative goals which was very important for us to do.

Promo plans for the EP?
Dusty: The EP is in the process of being pressed right now and as soon as that is complete the plans are to have the EP for sale on the website www.myspace.com/sspeedster, www.scarletspeedster.com and on the labels site www.popaholic.com. We are also pushing the EP hard to radio stations, we are hoping to gain as much radio support as possible.
Bobby: With this being our material, what we have poured into this, it is also important for us to be able to share what we have done to all the listeners hoping that we will relate and connect with the people.

Do you feel that you have any specific challenges or advantages from being from Jackson, MS?
Dusty: It's funny, Jackson is a unique place however the music scene here is all but dead, yet there are countless bands playing in the area.
Bobby: We, or I, feel like all there is in this area is your normal hard rock bands, and there are tons of them around here, and by normal I don't mean that they are not good at what they do - several of them are great at what they do - it's just that they all sound so similar - drums, bass, and distortion.
Dusty: I feel our unique sound has allowed us to offer something different musically to this area. I can honestly say that our sound is one you probably wont hear around in this area very often if at all, we like to play here in Jackson however our focus is on spreading the music all over the place, Bobby just said that he also likes Frank Melton.

What is the music community like there?
Bobby: In short, if you are not hard rock who are you?
What are your favorite local venues to play?
Bobby: Personally, though many would probably disagree there is a small run down place called WC Dons. I feel WC Dons is the underdawg just because the place may not have the equipment or stage setup that other bars do in Jackson, but at least the place tries to offer different and unique music to the community and not just the same old thing week in and week out. But the closest place to Jackson that we have enjoyed playing the most is a place called the Red Star Bar in Baton Rouge, LA.

Most loved local bands to play shows with?
Bobby: I feel that the most fun and enjoyment we have had playing with others would have to be with the band called Goodman County, check them out. They have helped us along the way and also have been very good people to just be around, another would be the Wes Mcdonald band, they are super nice to hang out with and also have great music to hear as well. They would also be one you would want to check out, they are from Alabama.
What drives you to keep Scarlet Speedster going?
Dusty: It's the desire to create and share music that we absolutely love playing. It's also the chance to connect with people at the live shows, that's the greatest feeling ever. It gives us the drive to keep on going.
Bobby: It is important to me to share what we have written including our inner most thoughts and take that to others and see how they relate or connect with us.. To see how they react or to see what they take away from each song.
