A Little Intro Following the shift in focus within Virus, I feel the need to talk a little about what brought us to this point. Nikki will have her own take on it, for sure, but personally, it's just about a shift in my own life. So much of what I've been interested in to this point has been far more about end product than the process leading up to it, and now I find myself drawn to process over product. The how is more important to me these days than the what or the why, and this, I think, can be traced to pretty much every aspect of my life. And I think it's fair to say that it started with knitting. There's something so amazing about taking two sticks and a really long piece of string and creating something not just tangible, but something useful! Being a part of the process, the biggest part of the process, in creating something you need, or even just creating something you want, has a profound effect on how you view the object you've created, and other objects like it. This sense of being a part of the process in my knitting, has lead to sewing, to cooking and gardening, to an interest in woodworking, and it's all lead to a realization that I'm sure everyone has had at one point or another, that aside from creating objects that we need, there's nothing stopping each of us from creating something far bigger that we need. Community. Even a community made up of people from all over the world, is a community none the less. Like-minded individuals who are not necessarily working towards a common end goal, but who are in some fashion, working together. |
