This book is wonderful. It's not that I'm a wonderful filmmaker, or that I even aspire to be, but I do enjoy messing around with my camera and doing documentary stuff. I don't usually itemize everything in a zine and talk about all of it, but it couldn't be helped here.

This book is so much more than I expected. It is a guide, yes, but it's like a tour through all of these ideas you may never have thought were realistic or attainable for the little guys (and gals).

The book begins with a piece on cameraless filmmaking. This was a gat read. Next up is an intro of sorts to DIY filmmaking, which offers up the general information you need to get started before the assignments begin. Really neat assignments like recording sounds first and then filming the video after, making a fairy tale (!), a narrative, and a few more.

Moving along, the article on animation was interesting, bringing a record player into the mix had me hooked. Information on puppet animation, too.

A really detailed article on Super-8, another specifically on girls making movies, tips on getting your film into film fests, with links to all kinds of neat festivals and organizations. The article on scriptwriting was an eyeopener for me, and beyond helpful, with a booklist of highly recommended resources for gal screenwriters.

There is a guide to putting together your own film festival / film night, DIY drive ins, and info about documentary and community, called Activist camera. Followed by How Short is a Short Film? And How Long is a Short Film?

Journal entries from production notes of an indie filmmaker's second film, a glossary of film terms (and wow there are tons), and of course all the resources one may need to jump into filmmaking!

Even if you're not a budding director or screenwriter, this book may get you creativity going.
