This is a wonderful zine, as Kate notes in the intro, 'there is nothing profound here, just the simple things that make me excited to get out of bed every morning'. She talks about old school video games that I loved playing like the Mario Bros games and Donkey Kong, plus games I haven't played like Oregon Trail, the very first game Kate ever played on a computer! there's even an old school version online [http://www.virtualapple.com/oregontraildisk.html] This piece is followed by a zinester trading card. Serious. The back even lists interests and the like! There are pieces on being a news junkie and her choice to not become a journalist based on all the bullshit, on loving the county fair, on moving from her hometown for the second time and a kick ass look at NKOTB! So awesome, who knew Danny put out a rap album?! This issue is rounded out with a couple of smoothie recipes, a piece on knitting (yay, another knitter!), getting mail (so write her a letter!), libraries, and cute letters to Mexican food, sushi, cinnamon and beer. There are a few more cute treasures in there too. |
