Easily Amused
Virus: Tell me about your upcoming CD.
Ben: Well it's going to be called, "Defeeted" and will have like 14 tracks I think.
Tom: Ya it's 14.
Ben: Yeah, and it should be out in May.
Zack: We've worked our asses off for it!
Tom: Heh.
Ben: Yeah it's taken forever to get it out.
Tom: Ya countless setbacks.
Virus: What were some of the set backs?
Tom: Me being grounded.
Zack: Me being grounded.
Tom: Constantly.
Virus: That must have sucked.
Ben: Yeah, seems to happen a lot.
Tom: Very much so, but we snuck out to band practice a few times and improvised what we could. We just wanna get this damn thing out, and once again we are doing everything ourselves.
Zack: Cuz we're some cheap bastards.

Virus: How long did it take you to finish it?
Zack: 5 months?
Ben: It took like 6 months, yeah.
Tom: But the way we did it was record like song by song, over a long period of time.
Ben: Yeah we did 2 or 3 songs per recording session.
Zack: We wrote songs while we were recording the album.
Ben: That's why it took us so long.

Virus: Is it out?
Ben: No it should be out in May though.
Virus: Where was it recorded?
Tom: Mamma Studios.
Zack: Upstairs Momma recording studio.
Ben: Haha yup.

Virus: How where the songs on the new album written?
Ben: Well we all kinda write the songs together.
Tom: I usually write lyrics.
Zack: One of us writes a part, then another will write a part to go with it.
Ben: Like well have a practice and one of us will write one part, and then everyone will revise that part...and well continue till we have the song, and Tom writes the lyrics.
Tom: ...and they are usually about or are metaphors of shitty things that happened to us.

Virus: What do you think is the best thing to write songs about?
Zack: Food. That's just my opinion.
Tom: Haha.
Ben: Yeah food is a popular subject.
Zack: I wrote the food song if you've heard it.
Tom: We don't like to write songs about girls.
Virus: Good.
Tom: That's why we have none, that theme is played out.
Ben: Yeah.
Tom: And we hate it actually, right?
Zack: Hate is a strong word.
Ben: Correct.
Zack: I'd say dislike.
Tom: Heh dislike it*.

Virus: How do you feel about independent bands who hold the DIY ethic and sign to a major label?
Ben: Bands that are still DIY on major labels?
Virus: Do you think that's possible?
Tom: Not to many of those are there?
Ben: Well, I don't think being on a major means you've sold out. I mean for example, Less Than Jake. Now they are on Fat, but before they were on Capitol. But they weren't really exploited on radio or tv play or anything.
Virus: But are there exceptions to that?
Tom: I'm sure there are exceptions, there are exceptions to just about everything.

Virus: Are you personally looking for label support?
Tom: What do you guys think?
Ben: Haha yeah I guess so. We've talked about it and everything.
Zack: We're going to use this CD to try to get on a label I think.
Virus: I'm not condemning it, I'm just curious about your opinions on it.
Ben: Yeah, I don't think we would ever be on a major.
Tom: Ya.
Zack: We don't want to just jump into something though.
Ben: But I don't judge bands just cuz their on a major.
Tom: I second that.

Virus: Do you think it's possible to achieve success by DIY?
Zack: YES.
Ben: Ya.
Virus: (I think so too)
Tom: Definitely.

Virus: Do you consider yourselves a political band?
Tom: I'm not to sure on that one.
Ben: We have political beliefs, but I don't think they slip into our lyrics a lot. We have songs a few that graze the subject, but as of now not really.
Tom: Right Zack!!??
Zack: Si senor.

Virus: What do you hope to achieve with this band?
Ben: I think that we would like to make a career out of it.
Zack: Yea that would be nice.
Tom: Yes playing music and getting payed for it, thats just about the best thing I can think of for a living.
Ben: Yeeuh we ain't in it for the money though.
Tom: Anti sell out though.
Zack: Yea, but money is always nice to have.
Tom: Ya just doing it for the cause.

[I grab a coffee, and Kyler shows up]

Virus: Who are your favorite local bands to play shows with?
Zack: The Sandwich Mafia was, but they're dead now.
Kyler: Willknots and Tripwire.
Ben: Tripwire.
Tom: Yeah may they rest in peace, and they're guitar player burn in hell (mafia).
Kyler: Yep.
Ben: Isn't that a little harsh?
Zack: Yea get off it.
Tom: Cause he quit.

Virus: Your worst soundguy experience.
Zack: That was at battle of the bands at our school.
Kyler: Yeah that sucked.
Tom: Ya.
Ben: Yes.
Tom: Man just not rockin.
Virus: What happened?
Ben: My guitar was really out of tune.
Kyler: We completely sucked....like Tom every night.
Zack: One of the guys from another band untuned Ben's guitar or something.
Ben: And the levels were also off the vocals. Yeah, those damn emo bastards.
Tom: Because some bitch band untuned it before the show, some emo band.
Zack: Yea and it was our first impression in front of a bunch of people from school.
