A band that began without a drummer, has evolved into a cohesive four-piece ready to take on the world. Their first album, a 6 song EP called 'I Want More' was released on Plaid Skirt Records in December, 2001. Go here and listen to my favorite Lolitas song, 'My Girlfriend Daisy'. Then read the rest.
Molly Cash (vox), Rad Lucy (bass) were contempalting forming a band with KT Vicious (guitar). Playing with 'The Lolas', as a name they were eventually lead to 'The Lolitas'. Without a drummer, The Lolitas was put on hold. Molly Cash and Rad Lucy continued plans for the band when Rad Lucy learned to play bass, and Matt Vermin came in on guitar. Jimmy Dead of Unlikely Standard (a guitarist) jumped in on drums.
The first gig for The Lolitas was at a Friday the 13th show in April, 2001. Playing with Calgary's Deville, Feninimum, Armies Disease, and Ivermere's Unlikely Standard. Described by Molly Cash, "it was a wicked show." The drummer issue ensued, to date they have had five drummers. Psycho Phil first jammed with The Lolitas a half hour before their set on the Chrome Tour (Sept/01) with Ignoranus (from Cranbrook) and Kid Apprehensive (from Edmonton). While December was an exciting month for The Lolitas, with their first album out, it was also the time Rad Lucy left the band. "She wasn't really into the commitment and work anymore, the band was just fun for her, so she moved on", notes Molly Cash. Matt added they're still on great terms. Interview - Visit Here |
