Rant against Downloading

Every time I buy a new CD, and then show it to my friends at school, the first thing they say is, “why do you constantly waste your money on CD’s?! You need to start downloading your music like the rest of the world!” At that point I get pissed off, and go into my hour long speech about why I buy music.

See, I’m really against the downloading of entire CD’s. Not only does it show that they are too lazy to actually support the band, but they are missing out on one of the greatest feelings ever. To me, there is nothing better then driving down to my favourite music store, looking at all of the CD’s and deciding which band I want to try out next, then going home, popping the CD in my CD player, and listening to the music while reading the lyrics or looking at the pictures that come in the booklet.

I feel it’s a shame that most kids choose not experience this feeling, and instead, download all their music.

Now before I go on, I have to admit I download music too. I know what your thinking, “you’re such a hypocrite Ryan!” but no. I don’t download entire CD’s; I’m extremely against the downloading of entire CD’s. Instead I look for bands who I haven’t heard of, pick a song by them, and download it. That’s how I get into new bands, and I only do this about once a month. What ticks me off, is that people abuse this, and download entire CD’s, and most of the time, it’s usually something mainstream. (Such as G-unit gangster rap, or mainstream rock such as green day or something).

I remember hearing a kid in school a few days ago, bragging to his friend about his new iPod, saying how it’s currently holding 5000 songs (or something to that effect) but the battery life only lets him listen to about 300.

What’s the point in that?
